MOUNTAIN
WHEELS QUALIFICATION
|
This qualification
allows the use of all altiports and altisurfaces which are
clear of snow.
An altisurface
is not an aerodrome, but an area situated in the mountains,
usually a field or meadow on the side of the mountain.
Duration :
- 7 hours : Ground School
- 15 - 20 hours : Flight Training
It is necessary
to allow the total of one wohle month in either one whole
or several shorter periods between May and October inclusive
General Programme
:
- Knowledge of the aerology in mountain,areas and performance
of the aeroplane at the heights flown
- Flight preparations
- Mountain Navigation
- Hazard recognition during arrival phase
- Take off - Psychosensorial and medical aspects of mountain
flight
The emphasis is
put on correct decision-making prior to touch down having
observed all elements surrounding the landing area.
Unlike the "Authorisation
of site" the mountain qualification will remain current all
the time you have a current PPL.
We do, however,
strongly recommend that you practice regulary to maintain
your skills and our instructiors are always avialable to help
you.

Up to 20NM: - St JEAN D' ARVES - VALLOIRE - LA ROSIERE
Over 20 NM: - TIGNES - St ROCH MAYERES
In the Southern
Alps: - MENS - L'ESCOULIN - FAUCON - NOSSAGE - CLAMENSANE
