  • Managing defense helicopter fleets involves complex maintenance constraints, limited resources, and strict airworthiness requirements. Traditional planning methods struggle to cope with this complexity.

    By deploying DOM AI’s Deep Optimization Model, Qatari Defense analyzed millions of maintenance scenarios to optimize planning and resource allocation—significantly reducing downtime and improving operational readiness, while leveraging existing maintenance systems.

Mission-critical aviation operations depend on the reliability of helicopter fleets operating under strict safety, airworthiness, and resource constraints.

    Both the availability of aircraft for operational deployment and the efficiency of maintenance activities are essential to national security objectives. Ensuring optimal maintenance planning while minimizing downtime is therefore a strategic priority, directly impacting mission success and defense effectiveness.

  • Managing a large helicopter fleet across multiple operational requirements, Qatari Defense faced increasing complexity in maintenance planning and aircraft availability. Dozens of aircraft, each with different maintenance cycles, resource dependencies, and mission priorities, had to be managed simultaneously.

    While safety and airworthiness were fully embedded in operational procedures, traditional planning methods struggled to cope with the combinatorial complexity of maintenance scheduling. Identifying optimal maintenance plans to reduce downtime and improve fleet availability required advanced optimization capabilities beyond manual or conventional systems.

  • When evaluating solutions to improve aircraft availability and maintenance planning, Qatari Defense assessed several traditional planning tools and optimization approaches. Most relied on manual scheduling, rule-based logic, or limited simulation capabilities that were unable to cope with the scale and complexity of defense aviation operations.

    After a proof-of-concept phase, ADGS’ DOM AI Deep Optimization Model was selected to support maintenance decision-making and optimize helicopter fleet availability. The ability of DOM AI to process millions of maintenance scenarios while respecting airworthiness constraints, resource availability, and mission priorities was a key selection factor.

    One of the most notable outcomes was the increase in helicopter fleet availability from 37% to 75%, achieved through optimized maintenance planning and better resource utilization. Maintenance teams experienced fewer delays, improved coordination, and greater confidence in planning decisions.

    The ease of integration was also a key benefit. “DOM AI did not require changes to our existing maintenance systems or workflows. It provided optimized recommendations that supported decision-making without adding operational burden,” noted a senior operations stakeholder.
